February 2003

From Operations & Technical Support we hear that...
list item CICS was successfully upgraded to CICS TS V1R3 from CICS/ESA V4R1 in December 2002.
list item UNIX1 was successfully moved from IBM AIX hardware to SUN Solaris hardware in December 2002.
list item The following products will be upgraded, possibly over Summer break:
  • COBOL will be upgraded from COBOL for MVS and VM V1R2 to COBOL for z/OS and MV VS V2R2.
  • OS/390 (MVS) will be upgraded from OS/390 V2R7 to z/OS V1R3.
list item The following services and products will be discontinued on June 30, 2003:
  • E-mail service on the VM/ESA system (e-mail address of @YSUB.YSU.EDU). This is due to the successful implementation of CUE e-mail and the declining use of CMS E-mail.
  • ANET service which permitted line mode access to the Library, MACS, and UNIX1 from the YSU logo.
  • VS Fortran, VS PASCAL and RPG. These products have not seen any use at YSU since at best the year 2000.
  • SAS BASE/ETS/OR/STAT on the VM platform of the YSU Enterprise Server. This product will still be supported for MVS (OS/390 or z/OS).
The YSU Help Desk wants you to know that...

You can now change your Unix1 password on the Web.  Go to http://cc.ysu.edu/password ,enter your user name, your present password, and your new password twice. The web server will check that your user and password are correct and that the new password is not “too easy”. Once it has passed these tests, your password will be updated and available for immediate use.

list item If you currently use the VM/ESA system (e-mail address of @YSUB.YSU.EDU), email the Help Desk or call (330) 941-1595 for help changing over to CUE mail or e-mail on UNIX1.
