What is the command to initiate the Advantage system?

After you logon to your CICS account, type AFN1.

  If I change my CICS password, does my Advantage password change also?

No. Advantage is a completely separate system from CICS.

  I'm having a problem with a piece of Hardware for my computer. What should I do?

Call the Tech Desk to report the problem. Be prepared to give the following information:

The type of hardware and computer it is connected to.
The YSU tag number.
The location of the hardware.
A detailed problem description.

  How do I change my M204 password?

At the logon prompt enter your 3 digit logon ID. Strike the <ENTER> key. Then, at the password prompt enter you password followed by a colon and the new password you'd like to use. (CurrentPassword:NewPassword)

  I forgot my password. How do I get it changed?

Call the Tech Desk and a temporary password will be assigned. You will be required to change it at you next logon attempt.

  What are the password requirements for RACF accounts?

Passwords must be 6-8 characters including at least 1 number, and cannot be a variable of a previously used password.

  What other passwords are affected if I change my M204 password?

All of your RACF passwords are changed if you change one password. RACF accounts are as follows ~ M204, CICS, TSO, and TUBES ~ (Advantage (AFN1) is not affected)

  How did I get "revoked"?

Logon IDs are "revoked" if a user tries to logon 5 times with an incorrect password. You must call the Tech Desk to have the account reinstated.

  Can I request a password change for someone else?

No. For security reasons, the Tech Desk is unable to change passwords for anyone except the account owner.

  Where can I get a new version of Passport?

  What is the IP Host Address for Passport?

You should configure the IP Host Address to ysua.ysu.edu .

  Can I install Passport at home so I can access the mainframe from home?

Yes. You can download the software from the Tech Desk web site and configure it or if you bring a CD-R to the Tech Desk, we will burn you a copy for home installation.

  What do I need to do to get Internet access from YSU?

Step one is to activate your CUE account. Then configure a PPP connection to YSU for your Operating System. 

**NOTE: Connecting to the Internet through YSU is only free if the call is not a long distance call. Otherwise, long distance charges apply.

  How do I change my UNIX password?

If you remember your current password, click here and fill in the form then submit your password change.

  I tried to change my password, but forget my current password. What should I do?

Students need to bring their YSU ID to the fourth floor of Meshel Hall so that a Tech Desk staff member can assign a new "old" password.

Faculty/staff need to call the Tech Desk and after verification a new "old" password will be assigned.

  I hear that UNIX is going away. Is it?

Although CUE-mail has been introduced and becoming more and more popular, there are no plans to completely disband the UNIX1 system.

  Does the university provide antivirus software?

  What can I do to help reduce the possibility of getting a computer virus?

It is imperative that ePolicy, for all machines running Windows 2000 and above, or McAfee Antivirus, for Windows 9x, be installed on all campus computers running a Windows operating system. It is just as important to ensure that your Windows operating system has all of the latest security patches/updates by running Windows Update from your start menu or by going to Microsoft's support site and selecting Windows Update under the Find and Download Software link.

  What computer systems are recommended by the Tech Desk?

Below are minimum and recommended configurations. Configuration depends on intended use, as well as expected lifespan of the computer. For example, if a student needs to engage in basic word processing, connect to the World Wide Web, and check e-mail, any PC equipped with a Pentium III processor or Macintosh with a PowerPC G3 processor with 256 MB of RAM would be adequate. However, to run current-generation software, any PC with a Pentium 4 processor or Macintosh with a PowerPC G4/G5 processor with minimum of 512 MB of RAM is recommended. If the incoming student is planning on purchasing a new machine to be used during his/her college career, a high-end machine is recommended.
